The Open Gardens and Scarecrow Festival
was held on
Sunday 3rd July 2011
A hot sunny day that was enjoyed by over 300 visitors to the residential gardens that were open to the public. Many fine words were said of the beautiful gardens and the colourful bloomin village. It was a privilege to meet so many kind people who visited the gardens giving praise and appreciation to the time and effort clearly shown in each individual garden.
Praise was mounted for the large number of Scarecrows displayed on the Village Green and again the time and effort shown by all ages to make this possible.
Thankyou to all of you who made this day possible and to bring the community together, from the indivdual residential gardens, scarecrows, volunteers in blossoming the village, helpers at the Village Hall in providing refreshments and selling the tickets.
The In Bloom website (www.wintertononseainbloom.co.uk ) has had many comments of praise for a great day. The Gallery Page has been updated with the Scarecrow Photographs
Well done to all of you.

This project has received several awards over the past few years and the area continues to be used regularly by residents, visitors and the school.have continued over the years to progress and we now have some 35 regular members, with many other residents joining the cause for Open Gardens, fundraising and general tidying, and enthusiastically supporting our Scarecrow Competition.have gone from strength to strength and have won many awards in Great Yarmouth in Bloom, Anglia in Bloom and have represented the Anglia region in Great Britain in Bloom twice, receiving a Silver Guilt Award on our last entry. have also restored a wildlife area at Duffles Pond where there are picnic tables for the residents and visitors to enjoy the wildlife. Financially the group commenced with a donation from the Parish Council and small donations from various clubs within the village, an Open Gardens day, and personal donations from the In Bloom members. At the same time is was decided to enter into the Anglia in Bloom competition for the first time in many years
Many items required for the displays during this first year, including the boat on the Village Green, were donated by local businesses and residents. The children of Winterton First School donated plants which they placed in a flower bed on the Village Green.
This first year resulted in Winterton receiving 2nd Place in Great Yarmouth and Gorleston in Bloom, 2nd in Norfolk Village of the Year and a Silver Award in the Anglia in Bloom Competition, with Winterton First School receiving a certificate of merit for their wild garden.
Having taken a well earned rest from competitions and Open Gardens in 2008 we held our Open Gardens Day and the Scarecrow Competition in 2009. The day was a great success with some 350 visitors making the most of the wonderful weather to enjoy the 19 open gardens, laugh at the Scarecrows and partake of the refreshments. Our crowning glory of 2009 and to receive a GOLD AWARD and Best Large Village the Anglia In Bloom Competition, We were also nominated in the Environmental Quality Award section, and Winterton Primary School was nominated in the Best Young Persons Project Category for their School Allotment. Following that came the news that we had won a GOLD AWARD and Best Village in the Great Yarmouth In Bloom Competition. What a way to end 2009. We have continued to increase the amount of planting around the village and to enhance the existing areas. Our aim is to keep up our standards and keep Winterton beautiful for many years to come. Do come to Winterton on Sea and enjoy * A VILLAGE TO BE PROUD OF *
