4.5 Open Forum
The following questions were put to the Parish Councillors:-
- Telephone mast in the Church tower – residents were concerned about the lack of communication regarding this mast going up in the tower. A letter from the company who are hoping to operate this was placed in the March newsletter; it gave details of who to contact if residents were not happy with the mast. The residents present did not receive their copy of the newsletter and the Parish Council had not been made aware of this. However, at the last Parish Council meeting two residents attended as did Father Ling and asked Father Ling to put back the date for contacting QS4, the company involved. It was also reported at that meeting that a petition has been started by residents who had concerns that the mast would be too near to the school.
It was also reported that the mast does not need planning permission as it will be on church property.
It was pointed out that the case for radiation has not yet been proved, that lots of children use mobile phones and if a mast isn't put in the church it could be put somewhere else in the village.
- Post Office closures – waiting for the Government to made a decision.
- Speeding cars through the village – The youngsters are known and their parents will be requested to ask them to not to drive so fast.
- Hand held speed guns – Following a request to GY Police earlier this year volunteers will be recruited and trained how to use the gun which will be shared with Scratby, Hemsby, Ormesby and California. It was pointed out that there will be no traffic wardens next year.
- Sat Nav – drivers still being sent up to Bush Road via Edward Road.
- Low Road footpath – this was reported at the last Parish Council meeting and Natural England, Norfolk Wildlife Trust and the owners have been contacted. Norfolk County Council informed the Clerk that the footpath is not a Public Footpath and to keep it open at least twelve residents who have used the path for more than twenty years should put this in writing to NCC.
- Coast Watch
The unit was opened on the 8 January and has been operating seven days a week manned from 9.30am to 4pm; no watches have been missed. One major incident was a barge containing scrap iron and 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel that had become adrift from the tug and another barge in serious weather conditions; it ended without mishap when a tug from Felixstowe managed to get a line to it and tow it back to Felixstowe.
The car park problem between the owner and Coast watch has been amicably resolved; Coast Watch will administer the car park and toilets when the café is closed. Mr McMurchie was thanked for all his efforts.
- Basket ball net – three young lads requested a basket ball net on the playing field. The prices for the base and net are being looked into and although the Parish Council agreed in principle they will have to approve the cost.
