Conservative Borough Councillor for Winterton & Somerton.
I have lived in Winterton and Somerton for 31 years.
Until 1984 I was Parish Clerk for Winterton and Somerton so have a good knowledge of both the villages.
I became a Borough Councillor at the May 2000 elections.
If I can tell you about some of the things I have looked at in the last 3 ¾ years:
Somerton electricity is supplied by overhead cables - power is not consistent and there have been many power cuts which causes a problem for people with computers, cooking etc. After many telephone calls the Energy company have now cut the branches out of the cable line and are now upgrading the cables from 3 to 4 core which means the electricity supply should be a lot better.
The water supply in Somerton has always been poor quality with discoloration. When Martham had a new water supply installed I persuaded Anglian Water to fetch it into the village. Which means we have good drinking water all the time.
Winterton Beach Road the Gap onto the Beach in 2000 the fishermen were having problems taking the tractors and boats onto the beach. I had a meeting with the Environmental Agency who agreed to carry out some works but had to go to Europe for permission. About 9 months later they arrived on site to carry out the works but the erosion had become too great so no works could be carried out.
TV reception in Winterton has always been poor but the wind turbines have made the problem far worse. In 2000 I held a Public meeting from this meeting questionnaires were completed and analysed the Energy company were told of the findings they then had the transponder upgraded and people having problems had their TV aerials checked.
Hemsby Medical Centre I have dealt with several health and social issues. From conversations with the Practice over people having difficulty with opening the Practice doors they have now been upgraded so that they open automatically - which has made a difference to everyone using the Centre.

In June 2004 the Ward boundary will be changing covering Winterton Somerton & Hemsby. Which will have two Borough Councillors. I have been the Parish Clerk in Hemsby for 10 years so already have a good knowledge of that parish and am also well know to parishioners. I have been selected to stand as the Conservative candidate with George Jermany who covers Hemsby at the moment.
