Winterton Netball Club
Winterton Junior Netball Club started 10 years ago using facilities at the
First School. Building work forced us to re-locate to Hemsby Sports & Social
Club and we have been there ever since. A floodlit, hard court surface
complete with posts have meant we can play all year round and the enthusiasm
the young players have shown means we usually do! We have over 45 members
from 9-40 + and we even have a couple of boys doing their GCSE PE who often
attend for extra practice!
We have had teams of various ages from U12 to ladies, in fact the current
ladies team originated when the very first junior players we had at 10 years
old, left 6th Form College!
The teams compete in leagues in Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Norwich and travel
to tournaments as far afield as Weston Super Mare in Somerset. The last
couple of years have been our most successful with the ladies team runners
up in the Yarmouth 2nd Division, the U12 winning the Norwich Junior League
and runners up in the cup, Lowestoft U13 summer league winners, and runners
up in the U14 Norwich Cup competition. The U14 team has made a great start
to this season winning their first three games 35-6, 31-16 and 30-3. We have
three young players training with the County Development squad, and one in
the main County U14 team.
In March, for a trial period, senior club members gave their time voluntarily to work with the Borough Council's Sports Development Officer, to encourage more young beginners. This has been so successful that the club has now opened its facilities to take in younger members from 9-12 years. This age group train on Saturday mornings at Ormesby Middle School.
Whether you want to learn the game, play competitively or just get some
exercise, everyone is very welcome to join us.
